A sneak peak into our studio! Below is a list of recommended pieces of equipment you might consider adding to your own setup when launching a podcast.

There are three lights that are core to the layout of the studio. One light is centered on each subject and the third light is centered over the space providing general lighting of the surface/table of the show.

Behind each subject we have a LED color light that can be set to whatever color in the RBG rainbow. This provides needed accents that help frame each subject.

A ring light is positioned between both cameras and adds a soft light to the frame.

The audio mixer supports 7 channels of audio including 4 microphones/XLR inputs, and a 8 sound effect panel. It also supports bluetooth and USB. This makes it easy to pull audio from a Zoom or video call.

A pair of cameras capture each subject. Occasionally we add a third camera using a GoPro for behind-the-scenes footage.

We have a pair of Tamron lenses that are compatible with the Sony mirrorless cameras.

We shoot all our video in HD, not in 4k due to the fact that it's being used for social promotion. With that said the larger the files the better the cards you need in terms of specs (not just size). We are using Lexar professional 128 GB cards for the cameras that run 250 MB/s and 1667x. For the audio mixer we are using SanDisk Extreme A2.

We also use a production slate which was added later to avoid improper content cataloging. This makes it easier to know which audio and video elements apply to which episode.

With all this new equipment you are going to want to have everything really well labeled. This keeps everything organized and ensures that you have a clear definition of what camera, cards and lenses go together.
